Meaning: Than; more than
Formation:
Noun/Verb-phrase + より + adj

人の命は何より大切です。
A person’s life is more important than anything else.
Hito no inochi wa nani yori taisetsu desu.
今朝はいつもより早く学校へ行きました。
I went to school earlier than usual this morning.
Kesa wa itsumo yori hayaku gakkou e ikimashita.
漢字はひらがなやかたかなより難しいです。
Kanji is more difficult than hiragana and katakana.
Kanji wa hiragana ya katakana yori muzukashii.
ジョンはほかの誰よりピーターを信用した。
John trusted peter beyond all his other friends.
Jon wa hoka no dare yori piitaa o shin’you shita.
東京は大阪より大きいですか。
Is tokyo bigger than osaka?
Toukyou wa oosaka yori ookii desu ka.
建物の中はいつもより暗かった。
The building was darker than usual.
Tatemono no naka wa itsumo yori kurakatta.
今朝は昨日の朝より寒いです。
It was colder this morning than yesterday morning.
Kesa wa kinou no asa yori samui desu.
今年は去年より多くの留学生が日本へ来ました。
There are more foreign students in japan this year than last year.
Kotoshi wa kyonen yori ooku no ryuugakusei ga nihon e kimashita.
弟はわたしより頭がいいです。
My little brother is smarter than me.
Otouto wa watashi yori atama ga ii desu.
わたしなんかより歌の上手い人は世の中にいっぱいいる。
There are plenty of people who can sing better than me.
Watashi nanka yori uta no umai hito wa yo no naka ni ippai iru.
僕には半年より前の記憶がまったくない。
I don’t remember anything earlier than six months ago.
Boku ni wa hantoshi yori mae no kioku ga mattaku nai.
彼らはまた新しい戦いをしており、それはこの前の戦争より過酷な戦いだった。
They were fighting a new war, a harder war than the one before.
Karera wa mata atarashii tatakai o shite ori, sore wa kono mae no sensou yori kakoku na tatakai datta.
